Accompanied she who must be obeyed on a trip to Bangkok last weekend as she continues her studies into the arcane (and totally contrived) world of Chinese horoscopes. Went out with my camera and decided to go a little further afield on Sunday morning, which to me meant ten minutes in a taxi to Wat Suthat.

It’s one of the older temples in Bangkok and noted for the unremarkable big red swing outside the entrance, and the murals on the wall in the main building.

To me they looked very much like the wallpaper that my grandmother might have had; but then she was a similar vintage.

The walls around the temple are lined with many Buddha statues which are always good for a hackneyed shot:

There are signs as you enter that you need to watch out for your shoes after you remove them because they sometimes get stolen. The culprits are probably the rather unsavoury characters that hang around the periphery. Still, I decided my crappy sandals were probably safe.

After about an hour I headed back to the centre and found myself at the Bangkok Arts Centre which was holding a variety of photography exhibitions.

Some interesting little shops and stalls too and I purchased a pair of earrings for my wife which was apparently the first time I had bought her any jewelry without being prompted; so well done me!
After that I just wandered around and ended up at the Erawan shrine for a while. Avoiding being part of a tragedy is pure luck.
